Dallas – Blackwell – Barnhartvale Loop
We hiked from the lower end of Dallas – Barnhartvale Park, starting at the Pussywillow Lane Trailhead at the south end of Mountview Drive. Our route was the outside loop of the trails, including some hiking on the Blackwell Trails on the east side of the park.
Pussywillow Lane goes up a gully into the lower silt cliffs and up onto the benchland.
From a viewpoint we had views north to Harper Creek and Harper Ridge on the north side of the valley.
Harper Mountain stands above the lower hills directly north of the trail system.
Mt. Peter and Paul stand over the South Thompson river to the northwest.
We hiked through the open forest in a clockwise direction. To the southwest, Sunrise Mountain rises above Barnhartvale.
We spotted a mourning cloak butterfly by the trailside, coming down the hill.
We finished our 5.75 km hike by coming down the Hoodoos Trail.
The trails of the Dallas – Barnhartvale Park are pleasant, moderate trails east of town, worth two hours of hiking on a spring day. A tour of the area is provided with a Google Earth fly-over:
