Dewdrop Ridge in the Fall
The Dewdrop Range extends from the slopes past/above Tranquille River west for 10 km. On the slopes above the Tranquille Hills is a ridge that runs east-west for 2.5 km. From the Frederick Road it is a moderate 1 km hike to the top of the ridge. We have developed a loop route that goes to the top of the ridge on the east end, then we continue west before dropping down to a lower ridge below the upper basalt bluffs. We follow that ridge to a spot near the Battle Bluff Trail but we then climb back up the ridge to the top again, enjoying the views before turning back down the open slopes to the start. There are no trails, but the area has few trees so we can pick our own route for the day.
From the east end of Dewdrop Ridge we can look up the Thompson River Valley toward Kamloops. The sun shone through valley haze onto the river and Kamloops Lake.
tt the top of the lower basalt bluffs, a few wind-shaped trees clung to the edge of the cliffs.
Directly south and below was Battle Bluff and from the west end of that ridge we can look down Kamloops Lake to the east.
This loop is only about 5 km but it will take 2 hours. Some of the footing makes for slow-hiking so good boots and hiking poles are recommended. We do this hike twice a year in most years and we are planning to return in mid-March when the south-facing slopes clear of snow. .
