Embleton Mountain in Summer
The Embleton Mountain Trails are fine hiking in all four seasons. We snowshoe the trails in winter, then time an early hike in spring to be after snow melt and mud as spring emerges, then return in summer to enjoy wildflowers, summer views, and warm temperatures, and return in the fall for the autumn colours. Our last hike there was in mid-July. We drove up the lower road to P2 and found the road to be rough in two parts, best suited to high clearance. From the upper lot, we hike the Pine Loop Trail to the gazebo on top, then returned by the Skyline Trail (for the views), the completed the loop on the Old Mills Trail for a 6 km outing.
Much of the trail system is on a forested sidehill. the old Mills Trail is a double track, but most trails are single tracks.
The west side of the trail system has a number of aspen groves to hike through.
From various points along the Skylne Trail Ridge are views down to Heffley Lake, with Mt. Lolo rising above, on the south side.
The Embleton Mountain has mixed forests on the lower slopes and the upper slopes are reforested cutblocks. A few larger trees can be spotted here and there along the trails.
Wildflowers were in bloom along the trails. Self heal was in abundance on wet soils.
To access the Embleton Mountain Trails, drive east on the road to Sun Peaks. Just past Heffley Lake watch for the BC Recreation Sites Tail on the left (across from the Rec Site camping area). Low clearance vehicles can park at the bottom. There is good signage along the way for a variety of loop options.
