Lac le Jeune Lookout Route
When we stay at the campground at Lac le Jeune Provincial Park, we sometimes hike over to the Lookout Trail, part of the Stake Lake trail system. We exit through a gate at the east end of the park, go along Lac le Jeune Park Drive, onto the Ross Moore Lake FSR, and then up the Rustler Trail. Just before the junction with Rattler there is an old double track on the right. We go along this unmarked track to some aspens, then we turn uphill zigzagging through open forest to a meadow, then up a short steep section to a more open meadow at the lookout.
The side track enters the forest above old cutblocks and we turn uphill right at a stand of aspens.
Some old snags stand on the hillside overlooking the bluffs.
There is a shelter at the lookout, used by cross country skiers and snowshoers in winter.
Below the lookout is the wetland on the east end of the lake.
From the lookout, all of the lake can be seen. It is 3 km long and a paddle around the shoreline is about 7.3 km. Ridge Mountain and the Ridge Lakes lie to the south of the lake.
Along the way a few wildflowers and some picturesque snags were spotted, a few of which are shared here. Click an image for a lightbox view and a caption.
