Spanish Trail Loop (Pacific Spirit Park)
Every time we visit or stay at UBC, we try to visit the Botanical Gardens and we also try to walk/hike the trails of Pacific Spirit Park. We enjoy all the trails, but we vary the route each time. Some routes are in the deep hemlock-cedar forest, some are on the more open slopes above Spanish Banks, some wind around bogs, and some pass by the golf course, housing areas, campus buildings, or gardens. In this last visit, we hiked trails in the middle, between Chancellor Boulevard and University Boulevard, looking for signs of spring merging in the forest.
Deciduous trees were leafing out and shrubs and ferns were showing new growth on both sides of the trail.
A variety of wildflowers, flowering shrubs, and ferns were spotted along the way. Click an image for more information.
We will be back in the late spring to hike other trails in Pacific Spirit Park and we will again be looking off-trail to see what can be discovered.
