Lac du Bois Grasslands Conservancy Snowshoe
The upper (north) edge of the Lac du Bois Grasslands Conservancy is one of our best snowshoeing areas in winter. There are short sections of trails which can be connected up, but the snows blanket the area, obscuring both single and double tracks, so following snowshoe tracks may be easier.
We chose to follow an old forested track between Clay Lake an the hilltop, then we emerged by a marsh between two hills.
From the viewpoint (our lunch spot), we could see down to the Long Lake chain below on the east side.
Long Lake itself was more to the southeast.
In the distance to the east, Tod Mountain rose above the nearer hills 38 km away.
We dropped off the ridge to cross Stony Lake, then we then followed a trail to take us down to a chain of ponds just below the Lac du Bois Road.
We crossed 3 ponds and stomped over 3 hills back to the where we started.
The loop route was 6.7 km.
