Mabel Lake Provincial Park
Mabel Lake Provincial Park is accessed by driving through Vernon, then east on Highway 6 through Lumby, then north on the Mabel Lake Road for 36 km. The final 2 km is along the gravel Mabel Lake Forest Service Road. This is a popular camping spot with 84 campsites all near the lake.
Mabel Lake was high when we camped there over the long weekend so the beaches were narrow, but there are several golden sand beaches within the park.
Unmarked on the map, but there is a single track trail along the lakeshore from the boat launch in the south to the group site and Taylor Creek in the north.
We were able to hike to “private” beaches in the park. There is also Taylor Creek Nature Trail which winds up the creek and through a wet cedar-hemlock forest.
A hike along the lakeshore and up the nature trail (with some side explorations) and back takes about an hour. In addition to walking in the park, we paddled out of the beaches both south and north. There are several days of paddling on the lake for motivated kayakers.
There are a number of backroads for exploration in the area too, but we mostly stuck to the :water trails”, paddling with kayaks and a SUP on the lake for this 4 day visit to Mabel Lake.
