Bush Lake South Loop
The former BC Winter Games Trails and various tracks in the High Country forest of the Bush Lake area provides a number of good snowshoe routes in winter. Although there are some known routes that snowshoers stomp in, there are often some surprises too so we venture out with a route in mind but we adapt to what we find. If a section has not been stomped in (the far south end had no tracks), we may want to follow a new route. After a summer of logging in the area new double tracks may be an option as it was in the this case. We chose to follow a track we have done many times but when we saw that farther progress southwest would require breaking trail through a cutblock, we opted to loop back on a new resource track for a total of 4,5 km.
The track up the hill was well-established. We combine double tracks, single tracks, meadows and cutblocks, avoiding thick forest with windfall.
Single tracks that wind through the open forest are our favorite sections.
One of our two groups we snowshoed with chose to snowshoe the Bush Lake North Loop too for a total of 8.5 km.
