Mount Embleton Trail
We hike and snowshoe on the Embleton Mountain Trails in all 4 seasons, but fall brings some of the best time on the trails with cool temperatures, lots of colour, and no bugs. We drove up to P2, the upper parking area and hiked west toward the upper lookout.
The trailhead is in an open area, but much of the first half of the trail is in the forest. It is 2.5 km to the gazebo on top of the hill (340 m elevation gain) from there.
Near the upper end of the trails are some larger aspen groves.
Our favorite loop is to climb up by the Pine Loop Trail, then come down the Skyline Trail, which has the best views. Heffley Lake lies below the cliffs with Mt. Lolo to the south.
The cliffs of Mt. Embleton provide open views of the hills to the west.
The Skyline Trail follows a narrow ridge. This is a section to keep children and pets back from the edge.
A panorama shot of the lake below captures most of the 5 km long lake
Most of the trail junctions are signed so hikers can create their own loop of 5 to 7 km. Our route on this fall day was 6 km and about 2 hours of hiking.
We hope to return to snowshoe the trails in mid-winter.
