Lac le Jeune Lookout
The Lac le Jeune Lookout Tail can be accessed from Stake Lake, from the Ross Moore Forest Service Road, or from Lac le Jeune Provincial Park Campground. We started at the beach and hiked 8.5 km out and back, with a short scramble down from the top to shortcut the route back. The first part of the trail is the same route as the Lac le Jeune Circle Route (Gus Johnson Trail), but we turned north onto signed cross-country trails (Rustler-Ambush-Lookout).
The route from the campground follows the lakeshore trail out to the road going east. The route continues to follow double tracks all the way to the lookout. The lookout is the perfect place for lunch, enjoying the views of the Lac le Jeune wetlands.
All of Lac le Jeune can be seen from the lookout. The loop can be done in 2 to 2.5 hours but there a number of options for a loop route to make the hike longer or shorter. All of the trail junctions are signed so the hike is a good one for families.
The lookout is also a popular snowshoe destination too. From the Stake Lake parking lot it is about 6 km return. A map of the snowshoe trails can be found on the Overlander Ski Club’s website – link.
