Ride the Dewdrop Range
The western end of the Dewdrop Range has a number of rough double track roads which can be driven with a high clearance vehicle, but they also provide good routes for mountain biking.
The route starts at the junction of the Fredrick Road and the Upper Dewdrop Road. A parking area 140m up the upper road is an area used by ATV riders, motorcycle riders, and mountain bikers. All of the area is in the Dewdrop – Rousseau Protected Area so all bikes and motorized vehicles are required to stay on established tracks. We biked west along the upper track under the rugged bluffs of Red Plateau.
The route continues with some ups and downs, but it is moderate riding on the way to the lower slopes of Rousseau Hill. We ride to the upper side of two junctions, but we skip the ride that bears up into the hills. Instead we ride down a side road toward Red Point.
The rugged slopes of Rousseau Hill force riders to drop down to the top of Peregrine Bluffs (and back up) if the cut-off route is not used. This is remote and rocky terrain, but the loops keeps to moderate double tracks suitable for most riders.
From the benchland above Red Point, we can see over to Peregrine Bluffs and Kamloops Lake.
Most riders will return to the upper track to retrace their route, but there is a harder-to-spot double track that follows the edge of the slopes, then descends down to the Frederick Road, providing a compete 14 km loop in the Outer Dewdrop Range.
