Cathedral Rock Trail
The Cathedral Rock Trail is a 1.5 mile return hike in the Sedona, Arizona area. We hiked up the steep route from the trailhead off the Back of Beyond Road.
Cathedral Rock is one of the most photographed landmarks of Sedona, a turreted butte of red sandstone.
The hike starts as an easy trail to the base of the rock, then follows a route up the rock following cairns. The route gets steeper and some scrambling is required to get to a flatter area. The rest/turn-around point is an outlook between two towers.
Some additional scrambling is required to find different views around the towers overlooking the Sonoran Desert.
There are longer hikes in the Sedona area (over 100 hikes are listed). We did a number in a week there, but left more for a return trip. Cathedral Rock is one we would happily redo.
