Jackson Road
Jackson Road runs from Highway 5A South up to the Long Lake Road, a total of 9 km each way. We drive to the turn-off and park at the bottom. We ride our bikes up the gravel road, climbing 173m. Much of the route is an easy climb, but a few sections are steeper.
Most of the route is past fenced grasslands, pastures and meadows. Aspen groves fill some of the gullies and there are groves of fir trees at the upper end. Jackson Road gets very little traffic so this is a quiet ride on almost any day. Watch for meadow larks and bluebirds in the spring and raptors circling above. We spotted a bald eagle near Brigade Lake.
We rode up and back, but riders could go out to the end of Brigade Lake on Weir Road, or could ride out Long Lake Road to the forest and back, or could return to Knutsford on the paved road. The downhill on Jackson Road is quick, a reward for the work uphill.
