Stump Lake Biking
The backroads by Stump Lake provide moderate and scenic riding. We started at the south end of the lake where the Planet Mine Road meets the Highway. We followed the paved road northwest as it winds through some hills, then passes a number of homes, and at the end of the paved section, followed the rougher double track that went north. This whole section is scenic and easy biking. The road bends east and meets a good gravel road. We turned left and followed the road north to the start of the homes on the northeast side of the lake. For this day, we chose to have lunch at the viewpoint. A sign there commemorates the Hudson Bay Company’s Brigade Trail, connecting Fort Kamloops to Fort Okanagan.
On our way back, we went all the way down the gravel road to the junction of the Highway and the Peter Hope Lake, requiring a short drive back on the highway shoulder to our parking place. This was a 18 km bike route, suitable for most riders. One section passes through ranchlands so please obey posted signs, respect cattle if any are grazing, stay on the roads, and close any gates behind you.
