Mara North Highlights
Every year we hiked up the northeast side of Mount Mara from the Pruden Pass Road. The route has bits of a trail, but it is mostly open forest and grassy slopes so the route varies a bit each time. It is 3.25 km from the parking area to the viewpoint at the front face of Mount Mara. It takes about 1.25 hours up and about 1 hour back. We enjoy this trip in the spring (May or June) when the snows are gone and the wildflowers emerge, but also in the fall when the weather is mild.
Past stories have featured this route – Mara Northeast and Mara from the Northeast, provided here if you want more information.
The views are fine from the half-way point, at the top of the Mara Bluffs.
On this trip, we enjoyed the fine spring weather, but we also stopped to appreciate wildflowers and emerging foliage, but also glimpses of horses, birds, and small animals.
