A Melba Toast
One of our better snowshoeing areas starts at the Melba Lake trailhead. It was described in the article – Melba Lake Area (link). Our return trip was in mid-February on sunny, mild day.
We followed the route that passes close to Melba Lake on our way towards Lodgepole Lake. We chose to loop through a cutblock and then worked our way back to Melba Lake. The reality is that you can set your own route if you stick to one of the dozens of tracks of the area or cleared cutblocks. Just bypass forested gullies and forested sideslopes to avoid windfall.
We found other snowshoe tracks in the area too and followed some for a while, but we found the area very compatible for an eclectic route choice, making our own track in the deeper snow. This one was 8km. You can follow ours or choose your own route. A toast to the Melba area.
