Watching Hill
Hiking trails were established near the confluence of the Watching Creek and the Tranquille River and are still used by a few people. The area needs some maintenance with fallen trees and a washed-out bridge, but it is still worth a few hours of hiking and exploration.
Standing above the confluence on the north side is a ridge that goes to the top of a hill that we have dubbed Watching Hill. Cliffs near the top make good viewpoints looking up two valleys and across to Opax Mountain.
There is no trail, but the route follows the spine of the ridge in open forest.
There should be a trail here so we carry flagging tape to mark a route and invite others to explore on foot. There is also merit in extending the old Watching Creek Loop south along the benchland on the east side of the Tranquille River and also in clearing an old track up Watching Creek. If you go out to this area, watch for flagging tape establishing these three informal routes.
