Silvertip Falls
Silvertip Falls has more of a vertical fall than Helmcken Falls, but it cascades, rather than falls straight down. It comes down from the Trophy Mountains, draining the snow bowls between Trophy 1 and 2 and Cwem Cwem Lake. Silvertip Creek falls drop 200m down to a gully on the south side of the Trophy Range.
To get to Silvertip Falls, take the Trophy Mountain Road, but stay right at the junction (at about 4.2 km). The road follows the valley bottom between Raft and the Trophies, the same route to the East Trophy Range or Cirque of Tarns. After 2km the falls is visible from the road. As the road approaches a bridge, look for a side road to the left. This is the access route to Silvertip Falls Recreation Site. The sign is hidden by vegetation in summer. Follow the road up to two small campsites next to the creek. If the sites are being used, there is a side loop road by the first site. The trailhead has no sign, but it starts just past the last campsite, following the creek upstream. The cedar and balsam forest here is fed by the mists from the falls and the hike can be a wet one in spring. Climb to the foot of the falls over a 1km route. From there, it is possible to climb a bit farther, but it becomes too steep to go on. We combined this short hike with another in the area. The bottom of the falls is a good place for lunch on a hot day. Two pools at the foot of cascades looked inviting and will call us for a return visit.
