Lac Le Jeune Lookout Loop
There are many trails in the Lac le Jeune area that lead through the upland forests, but few offer good viewpoints. A series of trails from Lac le Jeune Provincial Park through the cross country trails to a lookout makes a pleasing 12km loop.
From the beach area at the park, follow the trail along the lake to the gate at the east corner. Follow the road and turn onto the Forest Service Road. Turn onto the Stake Lake Trail system (link) and follow the Rustler Trail north. Turn up the hill on Ambush, and then turn south onto the Lookout Trail. The Lookout is an open spot on the edge of the ridge overlooking the north east side of Lac le Jeune, but the views extend all the way to Ross Moore Lake, the Ridge Lakes and Meadow Creek. A shelter and outhouse is available at the spot, and the open hillside is a perfect place for lunch.
Backtrack for a short ways and follow the Ricochet Trail down to a junction of several trails, then follow the Sidewinder Trail past the Gus Johnson trail back to the FSR and the campground.
Almost all of this route is on gentle double track trails with wildflowers and wild strawberries in bloom. When the days are hot in the valley, a hike in the forest at 1400m, followed by a swim in Lac le Jeune is a perfect remedy.
