Mara Trails
A trail loop can be found in the south-facing hills to the west of Mount Mara. Drive just past the junction with Tranquille on the Lake. Cross the railroad tracks and look for the parking area and gate on the right. Cross the stile and climb onto the double track just above. Follow the signs as the route gives way to a single track. When the route joins the road above, there are some options, but the simplest is to follow the old wagon road back down the hill.
The area is treeless, meadering and climbing through the sagebrush. It is a good route for the shoulder season since the southern exposure melts the snow faster than higher areas. The loop is about 3.2 km and can done in an hour.
