Gus Johnson Trail Report
The Gus Johnson-Lac le Jeune Loop Trail is a four-season trail. This week we biked around the lake, but we have also hiked it, run it, and cross country skied the route. Recent wind storms have brought down many trees which won’t impede hikers, but it is more of a challenge to mountain bike right now. Nevertheless it is a quiet enjoyable 13km route with fall colors, perfect for a fall afternoon outing.
The Gus Johnson Trail starts at the end of Lookout Drive, follows a winding rolling trail along the south shore to the end of the lake, then goes north to the Ross Moore Lake Road, linking to the Park and the foreshore road to the Resort. There are several views of the lake and adjacent ponds along the way. The route has been made smooth for cross-country skiing so it is easy on the legs. Sandhill cranes flew overhead on their way south and dabbling ducks were foraging in the shallows. We will return to ski the trail this winter.
