Coal Hill Report
Coal Hill routes seem to change each time we climb to the top. As the area becomes better known, new bike trails appear and replace old double and single track routes. Fencelines fall into disrepair and we see more evidence of human visits. Wildlife is infrequent now. The views from the top have always been wonderful with grasslands on 3 sides of the hilltop. We want to return to this trail more often now that all of the lands to the south will become mined. The area proposed for the mine is massive and will change the landscape from meadows, ponds and hills to tailings, pits, and roads. We encourage hikers to do this trail while it is still beautiful. On our last trip, we used GPS tracking to show our route. We have 3-4 different routes that we can choose, but this route follows double and single tracks with no fence crossings. The upper part is all bike tracks, winding up the hillside.
The views south and east will change soon. Enjoy them while you can.
