Albas
Albas Provincial Park is located far out in the Seymour Arm of Shuswap Lake. Traveling along the North Shore, pass St. Ives to start the Seymour Arm Forest Service Road. At about 27.5 km, look for the turn down a steep narrow road to the lake. A provincial campsite with a lakefront beach sits on the west side of Celista Creek. With high water in the lake, the beach was barely discernable and the flat land around the creek mouth was flooded so mosquitoes were troublesome. We launched for a paddling trip up the shoreline, then returned for a hike on the trails. A 3km loop travels along the shore of the creek until it comes to the lower falls, then follows a rough trail up past 4 more falls, crosses a bridge, then returns down the other side. Albas Falls is really a succession of waterfalls. The two lowest falls are the most impressive:
We enjoyed the hike and the beach, but we did not enjoy six houseboats which landed on the shores of the beach. This normally quiet spot wasn’t quiet, nor peaceful. We recommend driving down to the beach, then a hike on the trails, a quick swim, and a hasty retreat to a quieter locale.
