In the Rain, McArthur Island
When it rains so much, we sometimes walk on McArthur Island Park. Inevitably, an association with the pop song McArthur Park comes to mind when it rains so much. Who can make sense of the lyrics?
"McArthur's Park is melting in the dark,
All the sweet, green icing flowing down,
Someone left the cake out in the rain,
And I don't think I can take it,
'Cause it took so long to bake it,
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh no."
A number of people think this song has some of the worst lyrics of all time….
When the weather is poor, we have to keep our workouts shorter and McArthur Island is always a pleasant circuit. The route around the island is about 2 miles, but it can be extended by taking the Rivers Trail east or west. When the slough fills in, watch for herons, ducks, toads, and eagles. Take your time and watch for deer hiding in the shrubs or swimming over from Rabbit Island. Look for redwing blackbirds in the marsh. When it rains, there will be no golf balls to dodge either.
