A Complaint
National Parks Maps
BC Parks produces decent trail maps. They are not detailed but have reasonable graphics for planning hikes and routes. Regional and local areas also produce maps for hikers and outdoors people. But the National Parks do not provide reasonable on-line maps.
All the National Parks defer to authors of Trail guides or Friends of …. groups to provide hard copy trail maps. Links are sometimes provided so that we can order these private materials by mail order.
In my opinion, Parks Canada is a decade behind the times. The internet is a place to share information and as nationally funded Ministry, it has an obligation to provide good information on trails.
Just have a look at Mount Revelstoke. There are no good trail maps online. Simiilar challenges are noted for Glacier and other National Parks.
Shouldn't we expect more from Parks Canada?
