Ridge Mountain
Friends (Jeremy and Raegan) snowshoed from Lac Le Jeune Resort to the top of Ridge Mountain. This is the account of their route and experience"
"We started out at the old Lac le Jeune ski ranch. There is parking along the road and we pretty well jumped the fence and went after we saw others do the same. The start point was around N50 28.352 W120 29.695.
Our plan was to get at least one geocache but we weren't sure how long it would take. It came down to either your Ridge Lake cache or the Ridge Mountain cache. We elected to go for the mountain as it was a nice and clear day and we wanted to get a view.
We followed the snowmobile tracks up the west side of the slope until spotted a small road off on the right around coordinates N50 28.177 W120 29.986. One of my co-workers had told me that him and his wife knew of trail up there, and sure enough, just down that little road, there was a well packed snowshoe trail heading into the forest roughly south towards Ridge Lake. We followed that trail for a couple of km’s until we came to a junction, which was an old road that headed to the top of Ridge Mountain. This junction was located around N50 27.483 W120 30.380.
From there we slogged through the snow as there was no trail, just an old sled track up the hill. Using the cache description as a guide, we left the road around N50 27.442 W120 31.270 and climbed a rather steep slope which led to the top. With the drifting, there was times were I was up to my waist in the snow. Once at the top, we grabbed the cache, which was fortunately located on the windy side of the slope and was clear of snow, and had some lunch.
After that we tried to go down the west side but it was far too steep and forested so we doubled back to the road the same way we came up. Once back at the road, we just continued to follow it west until we met up with the main snow mobile track network and proceeded back to Lac le Jeune along that. On the sled tracks, we took our snowshoes off and made better time as the road was packed down. Once we reached the west end of the lake, we just went right across as the ice was more than thick enough and hit road for a short walk back to the car.
All told it was about 11km."
