Atop Saturna
Much of Saturna Island is National Park or Protected Area. We have found the hiking and explorations here to be top-notch.
Our favorite hike was the ridge walk along Mount Warburton Pike. We were able to drive to the top, then hike the open ridge south. The west slopes are open grasslands and bluffs with wide views in every direction.
There are fine views of Plumper Sound, the Pender Islands, Mayne Island, and the San Juans. Pick a clear day to do this hike:
The entire trail is an 8km round trip on the ridge or you can drop down and do a circle route of up to 21 km.
At the south end of the ridge, you can look down to several points bearing south.
Wind-sculpted trees frame all the views:
A herd of feral goats grazed on the slopes below us. New buds were emerging on trees, even on the highest point of the island in March. If there was no other hiking on the whole island, we would still return to Saturna just to do this hike.
