Lakeview Mountain
If you only have two days of hiking, choose the Cathedral Rim Trail, but if you have an extra day, try the Lakeview Mountain Loop. Take the Pyramid Lake Trail, then turn off onto the Goat Lake Trail at the junction. Follow the trail as it switchbacks down to Lakeview Creek. Cross the bridge and follow the easy trail up the side of the mountain to sub-alpine meadows. Enjoy the wildflowers, tarns, and larch trees before starting a steeper climb up rocky slopes, following cairns to a saddle. A junction is reached here. Cairns to the left are part of the Centennial Trail to Twin Buttes. Follow the carns to the right to climb to Lakeview Mountain. Follow the rocky route up to the ridge, then find your own route to the summit. Boxcar Mountain lies beyond, a scramble across a narrow ridge. We found the route good in dry weather, but all of the routes on Lakeview are rocky, and if conditions are wet, up and back may be your best choice.
An alternative route is to continue south, then follow the cairns down, starting in the saddle between Lakeview and Boxcar. It is steep for a while, but it levels out as it nears Goat Lake. Follow the Goat Lake Trail back to the bridge and back up towards Quiniscoe Lake.
