Skimikin Trails in Winter
The Skimikin Trail system is used by hikers, equestrian clubs, mountain bikers, and in winter, snowshoers and cross country skiers. The campground has been expanded to provide a number of equine sites and the trail system has been expanded with the support of the CSRD and the Shuswap Trail Alliance. There are over 100km of trails in the area. Although there is a bit of signage in the area, it is mostly around and in behind Skimikin Lake. The majority of the trails take some exploration.
Another winter option is to ski or snowshoe up the Tappen Mountain Road from the end of Pratt Road (the Nursery Road). We chose to stomp through the snow on trails south of the lake. Ours were the first footprints along the trails, other than coyote and rabbit tracks. Quiet, cool, and snowy….
For a first outing, park at the signed parking area and explore the trails to the south of the main road.
