Dewdrop Hill
A pleasant hike in interesting terrain is show on the map below. Drive up the Red Lake Road and at the hairpin, turn left onto the Dewdrop Range Road, sometimes called the Frederick Road. Continue along the flats until you come to an intersection. The upper road is called the Dewdrop Range Road and it continues over rough roads all the way past Red Point, or for the adventurous, up to Red Plateau near Hardie Hill (another post on this route at a later date). The lower road winds through low hills before dropping down through a canyon to the small lakeside community of Frederick. Take the lower road, cross a cattle guard and look for the small roadside parking area on the south side (the same place as for the Bighorn Bluff Hike). The route you will hike follows the road for a short distance, then turns north along a side road. Watch for the old double track going up the hill to the east and follow it up to the fence and beyond, following the lowest pass past the ponds. There are single tracks in this area to follow, but some route finding may be required. Follow the broad ridge to the top of the hill for the view, then retrace your steps to wind over the end of the ridge in a wide loop back down to the Frederick Road and back to your vehicle. The whole are has interesting depressions, rock features, ridges, some wildlife, and offers 1-1.5 hrs of hiking and exploring. Watch for cacti along your route.
