McQueen Lake
The McQueen Lake Environmental Education Center is run by SD73. School groups use the Overnight Center all year. There are a number of established trails for hiking and cross country skiing and the public can use the trails, obeying posted regulations. To avoid direct contact with school groups, it is recommended that hikers park at the southwest entrance, right at the start of the property. Trail maps are posted and a good route is to follow the Red Trail as it climbs over a hill and down to the Day Center at Smiling Pond. Various trails intersect in this area, including the trailhead to the Community Grasslands Trail. Cross the meadows towards Shirley's Dip, then onto the blue trail as it turns north towards Griffin Lake. Follow the orange Trail around Griffin Lake until you reach McQueen Creek, then take one of the trails back to the area you started in on. A good loop on well-groomed trails with several lakes and ponds along the way and a recommended trail system to be hiked once each year.
