Gibraltar Rock

Although the system of trails at Paul Lake is not extensive, they do make for some great all-weather hiking close to town.
There is free parking at the west end of the trail near the condos on the Harper Mountain road and we generally start our hike there. The trail follows the lake for a time and then climbs a hill in the direction of Gibraltar Rock. At the top of the hill there is a Y in the trail. The route to the right leads to either the Gibraltar Rock summit or the beach.
The trail to the left leads to the campground. As you arrive at the campground, take a right and follow the campground road to the trail marked “Beach Trail”. Follow the beach trail and about half way down you will come to an old forestry road (not marked on any map). Turn right onto that old double track and eventually the trail will tie into the route to the lookout at Gibraltar. Continue past the lookout trail, down the hill and back along the lake to the parking area. Total hike time: about 1’30” depending on ability.
