Sentinel Pass
This is one of the classic hikes in the Canadian Rockies. It starts at Moraine Lake in the Valley of the Ten Peaks. This is a busy spot, but the hike soon climbs up the hill away from the crowds. After about a half hour of climbing, a junction is reached. The left fork goes off to Eiffel Lake and Wenkchemna Pass, but the route ahead climbs though Larch Valley to a plateau with several small lakes, then up switchbacks to the top of the pass. The route is 5.8 km each way and climbs 725m to an elevation of 2611m. The views as you go up are some of the best in the Rockies. This is on the Great Divide where the peaks are largest, glaciers sit in high cirques, and the Rockies are at their best. You can hike through the pass and come down through Paradise Valley (a two-car system) or you can return by the same route.
