Clearwater River Road
Few of the rivers of the Interior are as interesting as the Clearwater. Clear, clean water, rapids, waterfalls, lava flows, volcanic dikes, small beaches, an oxbow, and more await anyone exploring the river valley. Take the Clearwater River Road to get a sense of the lower half of the river. In Clearwater, go past Dutch Lake onto the Camp 2 Road, and at the intersection, take a hard right. The road goes on for 38 km on a road that is always interesting. A 2WD vehicle is fine, but the road is a little bumpy, and it passes through two avalanche zones. It is very narrow in one section. It ends where the Clearwater River meets the Mahood River. At that point the trail to Mahood Lake and Sylvia and Goodwin Falls starts. Along the way, there are a number of interesting stops, each of which has a pullout and a short trail:
1. The Kettle at 8.0 km. Hike down to this marvelous spot:
2. Bathlolith Rapids, Sharktooth Rapids and Granite Way (kms 10.1, 19.1, and 21.1):
3. White Horse Bluff at 32.6 km:
And the confluence of the Mahood and the Clearwater at the end of the road.
