Crowfoot Mountain
A drive high up into the Shuswap Highlands followed by a hike along a good track to alpine meadows… Wildflowers in bloom and views in every direction…
This is an area popular for snowmobiling and is also accessed by motorbikes and quads in the summer, but it is also fine terrain for hiking and mountain biking. It is a moderate hike on a double track from sub-alpine forest to open alpine meadows. The route goes on to Mobely Mountain (10km further) and would be better suited to mountain bikes because of the distance, but Crowfoot is an easy destination for hikers.
Two km east of Celista, turn left onto Begulin Rd and travel up the hill for 1.5 km. Turn right at the stop sign at the top of the hill onto Line 17, then left onto Garland Rd. Proceed 2.6 km until Garland Rd becomes #730 Forest Service Rd at the first corner. Watch for logging trucks. Turn right and follow the main road for approx. 1.7 km, then take the right fork. At 2.2 km cross a bridge and continue up the hill. At 2.8 km stay on the main road (passing a road on the right) then stay right (passing a fork on the left). At approx. 3.1 km you will see a sign to note the start of the old sheep trail (now a wide ATV track) on the left. The 8-10 km trail starts at this point. It is a long hike from this point (okay for quads though) so it is recommended that you continue to drive up the road to the upper part of the same trail. Continue to drive high up the Forest Service Rd until a Deactivated Road sign signals the junction with the 4wd Sheep Track. Park here for a solid walk on a good double track up to the meadows and back. Open meadows and great views are found on the top of Crowfoot Mountain. Take the time to go for a short hike over to the east side to see Fowler Mountain and the glaciated Monashee Ranges. Then, cross the meadows for the view north to the 10km meadows of Mobely Mountain and Pukeashun Mountain beyond. Return by the same route. You can also continue past Crowfoot on a mountain bike ride over to Mobley and back (approx 20 km return).
