Snowshoeing Bush Lake
The Bush Lake area is an informal area of routes through the high country forest. There is one flagged “trail” on the north end of the trails and there are another 8 km of routes on the south side. Right across the road are the Dogwood Marshes. All of the routes can be snowshoed from one parking lot on the Lac le Jeune Road.

- these “routes” are approximate – follow the stomped in tracks or flagging tape out there
Each time we snowshoe the area, we follow tracks and find new routes or we break trail to connect known routes. There are no “Aha” moments in these forests. We just follow tracks through the forest, passing ponds, swampy areas, ridges, glades, and treed slopes. The routes are not marked with signs and only a couple of routes are flagged. Trees fall across the track and we just go around them. We avoid deadfall areas and look for an open route through the trees. Breaking trail is hard work so we take turns. Each time we head out we seem to do a different route which is part of the fun. The trails are not maintained, there are no fees, and the parking area is not always clear, but we return to Bush Lake each year for a bit of stomping in the winter forest.
