Kentucky-Alleyne Trails
We returned to hike trails around Kentucky and Alleyne Lakes to take in fall colors around the turquoise lakes. These are moderate trails, but we chose routes that still provided 11.2 km of hiking on a cooler day in September. The hikes start from the Day Use parking areas within the Provincial Park.
The loop around Kentucky Lake is 4km. A double track also goes up the west side of Alleyne Lake to the group camping site. A loop around the lake is possible, but permission from the Douglas Lake Ranch is required to do the full route.
The quiet trail around Kentucky Lake is pleasant in every season. The route is mostly flat and an easy walk.
We paddled the lake this last summer then returned to hike around the lake in the fall.
At the end of Alleyne Lake are a series of pothole ponds, but the northern end of the lake is private land and permission from Douglas Lake Ranch is required.
The Fairweather Hills rise above the western side of Alleyne Lake. The eastern flanks and the summit are on Crown Land and so we will return to explore those hills on another day.
